WPO NEWS Jakarta - Every 1 October, Indonesia commemorates Pancasila Sacrifice Day. The designation of 1 October as Pancasila Sacrifice Day cannot be separated from the events of 30 September 1965, commonly known as G30S/PKI. In this incident, six generals and one officer were killed.

Pancasila Day was initially only commemorated by the Indonesian Army. They remembered the deaths of their comrades and how the power of Pancasila was able to resist communism in Indonesia.

The second President of the Republic of Indonesia, HM Soeharto, who at that time served as Minister of Defence and Security, issued a decree numbered Kep/B/134/1966, dated 29 September 1966. The decree ordered that Pancasila Sacrifice Day be commemorated not only by the Indonesian Army, but by all elements of society.

The commemoration of Pancasila Sacrifice Day was further strengthened by Decree No. 153/1967 issued by Soeharto on 27 September 1967.
